Young St. Croix Artist In Solo Art Show To Highlight His Many Talents
Artist Victor Cepeda of St. Croix
CHRISTIANSTED – A 20-year-old St. Croix native who is best-known for his colorful murals all over the island is getting his own solo art show here starting this weekend.
Victor Cepeda, aka the “Mural Man,” told the Virgin Islands Free Press that the show will take place at the Sion Farm Shopping Center in Peter’s Rest starting Friday.
“I’m hoping that this will build my reputation up a little bit from not just being the ‘Mural Man,’ but also to that of being considered one of the up and coming young artists on St. Croix,” Cepeda said.
Cepeda, who lives in Estate Sion Farm, is currently studying industrial design at the Universidad del Turabo in Puerto Rico and hopes to one day return to his native island with the knowledge he has gained abroad.
“I am planning to come back to St. Croix and start a business here,” he said. “It will produce products that are both efficient and eco-friendly – products that are recyclable and those can be used multiple times.
The young artist has produced brightly-colored murals that have drawn rave reviews from local audiences who have seen them at the entrance of the Sion Farm subdivision and at Luncheria Mexican Food restaurant in Christiansted.
Cepeda plans to have art works, t-shirts with his designs and notebooks on sale for the general public at the art show. He plans to use the proceeds from the sale to help defray some of the costs of his education.
The show starts Friday at 5 p.m. inside Eddie’s Glass Services (next to the Glidden paint store) and runs Saturday 5 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m.
