CHRISTIANSTED — A prominent St. Croix funeral director allegedly “went postal” on his wife at the Divi Carina Bay Resort — wreaking mayhem on her face and arm visibly — and had to be subdued by police after savagely beating her in a shocking incident of domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Free Press has learned.
Police said that James Allen Powers, 51, a native of Atlanta, Georgia on the mainland United States, has been charged with “simple assault and battery” after “fiercely” punching his wife in the face and arm at the Divi Carina Bay Resort on Monday March 13.
In other crime news, Wilfredo Cotto, 36, of Building 11, Apartment 85, D. Hamilton Jackson Terrace, has been charged with third-degree assault after he allegedly brandished a knife at another man and “lunged at him with it,” and also pointed it at him in a threatening manner, the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) said.
Police also said that Ezekiel “Royal” Holder of Orange Grove #5 was arrested on Sunday after tearing off the clothing of his girlfriend without her permission. The VIPD said that the crime of passion is classified as “destruction of property — Domestic Violence.”
And finally, the VIPD said that Shawn Williams, 51, of Indianapolis, Indiana was charged with third-degree assault on Sunday after he allegedly hit another man with a stone and his backpack near the Lighthouse Mission in Time’s Square, Christiansted. Police added that Williams is unemployed.
