VIPD: Suicide Reported in Campo Rico Area of Frederiksted By Family of Dead Man

FREDERIKSTED — On May 17, 2017 at approximately 7:05p.m, officers were dispatched by the 911 Emergency Call Center to Campo Rico, Frederiksted, in reference to a suicide.

Upon arrival officers made contact with a family member who stated he found his brother hanging from the ceiling in his bedroom.

Officers made an observation of the man’s bedroom and observed a black male individual lying on the floor. They also observed a white rope that was nailed to the beam in the ceiling.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene by Emergency Medical Technicians and was transported by the morgue attendant.

People who know the family told the Virgin Islands Free Press that the man who died is the son of a taxi van driver here.

The family told police that their loved one had struggled with mental illness for years prior to his death.
