BUENOS AIRES — The Virgin Islands Men’s basketball team was going for two upset wins in a row.

The hometown team defeated 24th-ranked Canada 83-71 on Sunday.

On Monday, the Virgin Islanders lost a close one 84-86 to 15th-ranked Venezuela.

Walter Hodge of the Virgin Islands team again was the game’s high scorer with 24 points in a losing effort.

Venezuela impact players for Venezuela were Gregory Vargas, Jose Vargas, John Cox, Nestor Colmenares and Windi Graterol. Guards Vargas and Cox play in Spain and Germany respectively.

The rest of the team are professionals in the Venezuelan League as compared to the Virgin Islands which features several college players.
