CHRISTIANSTED — Gov. Kenneth Mapp’s legal counsel has some explaining to do tonight about an ill-advised Father’s Day post on Facebook that some are calling “abusive” and “misogynistic.”
Critics say Emile Henderson III’s post seeks to denigrate women who celebrate Father’s Day because they play a man’s role in a child’s life regardless of why they are single parents (widowed or simply abandoned).
“Emile A. Henderson III: is advising: Happy Gutterbutt Trallops Day to all the women who maintain that they must be wished Happy Father’s Day because they somehow are both Mother and Father,” Henderson wrote on Facebook. “So that is my compromise to you wanting to take over this day — it shall be shared and known as Happy Gutterbutt Trallops Day for you and will remain Happy Father’s Day for the MEN who are truly Fathers! As you were.”
Henderson is reportedly on extended leave with Government House and could not be reached for further comment on Sunday by the Virgin Islands Free Press.
“Those praising him for the judgeship must not understand the terms he uses,” one source said, requesting anonymity. “But those terms denigrate women, especially poor women in public housing. They are abusive and misogynistic and have no place in a civilized society.”
And on Facebook some said it was “fake outrage” and “where’s the lie, though? SMH” but others were harshly critical of Henderson.
“Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but to call females a gutter butt trallop when your family is from Harrigan [Court housing] (project) is hilarious to me,” another person wrote on Facebook.
The Urban Dictionary defines “gutter butt” as: “a big nasty, most likely desperate tramp most usually found in government housing projects, also found at most clinics.”
It defines “trallop” as: “any female acting or looking in a slutty/trashy fashion. If she looks like a slut or a nasty bitch … she is a trallop.”
Mapp’s legal counsel is reportedly up for a judgeship nomination in the territory. Henderson’s mother is the governor’s paid chef.
