CHRISTIANSTED — People searching Google for news stories about the Virgin Islands got more than they bargained for this morning. It’s not often that you’ll find sites that look remarkably similar to https://www.watchmygf.xxx/ when looking for updates on the British Virgin Islands, but this is certainly one of those occasions.

The top seven out of 10 stories that appeared on the Internet said they were by “East County Magazine” and written about one hour ago — but with a click of the mouse — you got something unexpected in your house.

Because the top seven stories titled: “us virgin islands demographics us virgin islands population 2018,” “virgin island carnival 2018 virgin islands carnival committee,” “plants of british virgin islands virgin islands national park plants,” “office of veterans affairs virgin islands st thomas va hospital,” “tarpon fishing virgin islands british virgin islands nationality,” “virgin islands bar review british virgin islands bar association” and “us virgin islands family friendly the westin st john resort villas us virgin” — all lead to the same porn site!

The porn site is called: “SEXCLUBTUBES” (see photo above) and is apparently a hard-core pornography sex website with full-penetration sex videos. (We didn’t click on the site or videos, although we’ve heard they aren’t dissimilar to the one’s you can find on sites like m-porn.xxx.)

The real “East County Magazine” says that it is an “award-winning nonprofit media in the public interest, serving San Diego’s inland region.”

The Virgin Islands Free Press this morning asked the East County Magazine for comment.

Miriam Raftery, the editor with East County Magazine, said “East County Magazine is nonprofit award-winning news in the public interest.”

“We have NO connection with any porn sites; we have been victimized by this malicious action of scammers or hackers,” Raftery said.

“The urls listed on the Google search for Virgin Island News are fakes,” Raftery said. “The scammer stole a photo of a pool off our news site, an award winning nonprofit community news in the public interest site, and somehow got listings that use our website name, with fake urls linked to porn maybe even links to great porn sites. Unlimited collection of shemale porn @ shemalehd sex, to pop up on Google. Those urls do not exist on our site and never did.”

“I’ve been trying to find out who at Google to contact to get these taken down,” Raftery added. “Please advise your readers that our news site has been victimized and that we are horrified to have our name misused in this way. We would welcome help from anyone who knows how we can find out who is responsible for this, and how to clear our name.”

East County Magazine said it has won 105 major journalism awards including watchdog journalism on some cases involving cybercrimes and Internet abuse to smear and defame people.

“Possibly someone has targeted us for revenge, or possibly this was a random attack by porn site operators to promote their smut,” Raftery said. “We condemn the actions of whoever is responsible and appreciate you alerting us to this abuse of our good name.”

Certainly Virgin Islands Tourism, even the British Virgin Islands and the Westin St. John Resort — although it is not supposed to open until 2019 — might want to talk to the people behind the porn website.

John – East County Magazine is NOT behind this. The links on Google’s search for Virgin Islands news are not to any real URLs on our site. The pool image used was stolen off an article on our site but the links to supposed stories are all fake. We are trying to find out who at Google we can complain to about this abuse of our domain name. We absolutely are no affiliation with any porn sites and we are appalled at this misuse of our nonprofit news in the public interest’s name. I did email you this morning right after getting your email so I am surprised that your story still says you have not received a response from us. Please help clear our name, and thank you very much for notifying us about this.
