VIPD: St. Croix’s Manuel ‘Matatan’ Davis Charged With Watergut Killing From March

CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix man was arrested for a murder that took place near the Ruby M. Rouss Apartments in March.

Manuel V. “Matatan” Davis, 21, was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree murder based on a warrant issued by a Superior Court Magistrate.

On March 31, 2018, officers from the Ancilmo Marshall Command police station responded to reports of multiple shots fired at the Ruby M. Rouss housing community.

Upon their arrival they discovered the lifeless body of a Hispanic individual, who was later identified by next of kin as 23-year-old Alex Gonzalez.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau’s Major Crimes unit were assigned to investigate the homicide.

On July 27, 2018, an arrest warrant was issued for 21-year-old Manuel V. Davis aka “Matatan” for Murder in the first degree by Superior Court Magistrate.

Davis, who was remanded at the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility, on an unrelated matter, was served with the arrest warrant and taken into custody.

Unable to post bail of 1,000,000.00, he was remanded back to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility.

According to police records, Gonzalez was arrested on illegal gun charges in September of 2016.

The word “mata” means “kill” in Spanish.
