Was Naji Jarvis' Dead Body Found In Burnt Out Car in William's Delight Last Night? VIPD Says: Me No No

FREDERIKSTED — Police have confirmed that a car that was discovered before midnight on fire in William’s Delight last night was missing U.S. military man Naji Jarvis’ own.

Police Commissioner Delroy Richards Sr. said that his local resources would not allow him to determine officially if it is Jarvis’ body that investigators found in the car after putting out the fire. DNA testing was required, Richards said.

The body of the as-yet unidentified victim was discovered on fire in a wooden car garage on First Street in William’s Delight after 11:03 p.m. Monday when a concerned citizen called the 911 Emergency Call Center.

Virgin Islands Fire Services personnel and VIPD Units responded to the fire, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

When police arrived on the scene they discovered a compact car on fire with a human body “burned beyond recognition” in it, according to the VIPD.

VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said that the Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) gathered samples for DNA and forensic testing in order to identify the victim.

The incident is an active investigation, according to police.

The CIB is asking anyone with information on this incident or any other to please call the the CIB anonymous tip line at (469) 475-3871, or (340) 778-2211, or the non-profit anonymous tip line Crimestoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477 or 911.
