85-Year-Old St. Thomas Woman Killed By Truck Trying To Cross Veterans Drive

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — An 85-year-old woman was killed Friday after being struck by a large pickup truck on Veterans Drive in St. Thomas.

Police identified the woman as Sarah O. Brown. VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said Brown is a resident of St. Thomas.

Police and emergency medical technicians responded to report of a pedestrian involved accident about 1:53 p.m. Friday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Brown was crossing from the apron to the northern side of Veterans Drive, adjacent to the the Holiday Inn formerly the Windward Passage Hotel.

A red Ford F-150 Safari was traveling westward in the inner lane. The pickup truck mowed Brown down.

Brown was taken by ambulance to the Schneider Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

The accident is still under investigation by the VIPD’s Traffic Division.
