Expectant Mother Briana Norris Charged With Child Abuse After Overdose on Heroin

CHRISTIANSTED — Police said an eight months pregnant former FEMA employee has been charged with child abuse after overdosing on heroin.

Briana Norris, 26, of St. Croix was arrested about 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and charged with child abuse, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

According to the VIPD, Norris had to be given an IV by the Juan Luis Hospital to flush cocaine and opiates from her system.

Police also said that Norris pulled intravenous tubes out of her body and tried to flee the hospital and also tried to escape from the police station when she was brought in for questioning.

Norris admitted that she has been using heroin since she was 16 years old.

Unable to post $10,000 bail, Norris was remanded to Bureau of Corrections detention Center pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
