A Brief History of The Loredon L. Boynes Sr. Dock In Cruz Bay, St. John: VIPA

CRUZ BAY — The Loredon L. Boynes Sr. Dock is located at the heart of Love City and is the primary ferry dock on St. John.

Since the island has no airport, its seaports are critical to the community and businesses on the island.

The Virgin Islands Port Authority said it has plans to expand this port in the future, to include: a covered area for disembarking passengers; the addition of a second floor to the existing ferry terminal; and providing restroom facilities at the dock.

This facility is named in honor of the late Captain Loredon Lawrence Boynes Sr., a St. Johnian born on April 2, 1919.

Captain Boynes is one of the original Virgin Islands seamen who began regular ferry service connecting St. Thomas, St. John and the British Virgin Islands.
