VIPD Honors ‘Service And Sacrifice’ Of All Law Enforcement Officers With Series Of Events

FREDERIKSTED — In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as police week.

This year national police week is being celebrated from May 12 to Saturday in the territory.

Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week pay tribute to the local, State, and Federal law enforcement officers who serve and protect us with courage and dedication. 

In the territory the Virgin Islands Police Department will be hosting various events to honor the service and sacrifice of all law enforcement officers and recognition of their fallen brothers and sister blue.

Acting police Commissioner Jason K. Marsh “stated as we celebrate the handwork of our officers and supporting staff. Being a police officer is often stated as a thankless job, but I say Thank you and I appreciate you, 

At the same time, we must remember those that given their lives protecting our community. let us continue to embrace their families as our family. 

In these times where we are the targets while we try to protect the members of this community to be mindful and careful of our surroundings because we like our community have family members that love us and want us home safely”.

Wednesday, May 15, 2019– Parade St. John Jurgen Command, ending Cruz Bay 10 a.m.-until 

Thursday, May 16, 2019– Bags of Love Civilian Drive              

Friday, May 17, 2019– St. Thomas kids culinary event Emancipation Garden 8 a.m.-3 p.m. 

Saturday, May 18, 2019-St. Thomas Peace Concert Emancipation Garden 5 p.m.-until

Monday, May 13, 2019 – Shooting competition, St. Croix marksman shooting range South Shore 9am-until. Carwash Competition, Patrick Sweeney   

Tuesday, May 14, 2019– Ancilmo Marshal Command Open House 12:30pm-until  

Wednesday, May 15, 2019-Grave Site Visitation, 7:30am 10:00am -Peace Officers memorial , Police Headquarters Violet Damiduax Pavilion, Golden Grove 

Candle Light Vigil 5pm at the Ann Abrahamson Pier 

Thursday, May 16, 2019– Special operations Open House 9:00am-until   

Kickball ( Alicea Ballpark at Castle Coakley)  7:00 pm Beer Chug Competition
