VIPD: Ivan Hansen Charged In Vehicular Deaths Of Two St. Croix Refinery Workers

CHRISTIANSTED — A 60-year-old St. Croix man was charged Monday with negligent homicide in the February vehicular deaths of two visiting refinery workers from Houston.

Ivan Hansen, of St. Croix, was charged with two counts of negligent homicide by vehicle in an arrest warrant signed by a Superior Court judge, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Hansen’s bail set at $15,000.00.  Unable to post bail and was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility.

Marcus Roy, 29, and Quinton Thomas, 35, of Texas were killed on February 9 after their vehicle first struck an SUV allegedly driven by Hansen and then careened into the rusty tank in Sion Farm.

At about 1 a.m. that day, Hansen told police he stopped at a Rattan Road intersection when he saw a green Jeep Wrangler approaching at a high rate of speed.

Hansen also said that he felt the Wrangler hit his Isuzu Rodeo and then he saw the Jeep strike a rusty tank, causing it to fall, according to a prepared statement released by the VIPD at the time.

The Wrangler’s driver, Roy, and his passenger, Thomas, died in the crash.

Roy of League City, Texas and Thomas of Fresno, Texas were working at Limetree Bay Refinery as subcontractors.

Hansen, the driver of the Isuzu Rodeo, sustained minimal injuries in the crash.

Police notified the Virgin Islands Free Press that Hansen was being charged at 12:28 a.m. Wednesday.

Why is he being charged if they hit him? I don’t get it.

Someone please explain because no where in this article does it say he hit them or did anything wrong.
