Plaskett’s Legal Counsel Makes ’50 Most Beautiful’ List For D.C.

Juan “Pretty” McCullum

WASHINGTON — The Hill online non-partisan political newspaper has chosen Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett’s general counsel as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the District of Columbia for 2015.

Juan McCullum, 32, of Pearl, Mississippi was listed as No. 5 on the list compiled by The Hill as released this week.

And as the article states, McCullum “is no stranger to fame, and neither is his English bulldog, Tourner.”

Plaskett’s legal eagle is a former reality TV star — you may recognize him as “Pretty” on VH1’s “I Love New York” — but it’s often his pup that leaves the lasting impression.

“People know him on the Hill,” McCullum said, adding he often gets requests from other offices for visits from Tourner (his dog).

McCullum’s not embarrassed about his television past, admitting that he auditioned for VH1 when he was a broke law student.

“It’s part of my journey in life,” he told The Hill.

His hairdo is also embarking on a new journey: After eight years, McCullum says, he thinks he’s ready to ditch his dreadlocks.

“At some point during 2015 they’re coming off,” he said with a laugh.

“I think they’ve run their course, but it’s been a good run.”

John McCarthy

John McCarthy is primarily known for his investigative reporting on the U.S. Virgin Islands. A series of reports beginning in the 1990's revealed that there was everything from coliform bacteria to Cryptosporidium in locally-bottled St. Croix drinking water, according to a then-unpublished University of the Virgin Islands sampling. Another report, following Hurricane Hugo in 1989, cited a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) confidential overview that said that over 40 percent of the U.S. Virgin Islands public lives below the poverty line. The Virgin Islands Free Press is the only Caribbean news source to regularly incorporate the findings of U.S. Freedom of Information Act requests. John's articles have appeared in the BVI Beacon, St. Croix Avis, San Juan Star and Virgin Islands Daily News. He is the former news director of WSVI-TV Channel 8 on St. Croix.
