Anna’s Retreat Woman Arrested On Fraud Charges

Mug Shot - Tasha Forbes

CHARLOTTE AMALIE – A 41-year-old Estate Anna’s Retreat woman was arrested on fraud charges early Friday morning, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.

Tasha Forbes was arrested at 10 a.m. July 31 when officers with the Economic Crime Unit executed an arrest warrant issued by the Magistrate Court of the Virgin Islands, the VIPD said.

According to the warrant, Forbes is charged with forgery, grand larceny and obtaining money under false pretense.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred in March, after Forbes allegedly forged the signatures of other people on several checks and then cashed them.

Bail for Forbes was set at $10,000.00. Unable to post bail, she was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending an Advice of Rights hearing.

A series of reports beginning in the 1990's revealed that there was everything from coliform bacteria to Cryptosporidium in locally-bottled St. Croix drinking water, according to a then-unpublished University of the Virgin Islands sampling. Another report, following Hurricane Hugo in 1989, cited a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) confidential overview that said that over 40 percent of the U.S. Virgin Islands public lives below the poverty line. The Virgin Islands Free Press is the only Caribbean news source to regularly incorporate the findings of U.S. Freedom of Information Act requests.
