CHRISTIANSTED – A man was kidnapped and held hostage in his own home in Estate Hermon Hill Friday night, according ot the Virgin Islands Police Department.

The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched police to a house in Hermon Hill after a burglary was reported at 7:58 p.m. Friday, the VIPD said.

Police arrived at the home and met with the man, who told them that he had sought the assistance of a neighbor after having been held hostage in his home for about an hour, according to the VIPD.

The man said he was in his home packing his belongings, when he was suddenly placed in a chokehold and told not to move, police said. The man said he had had people in his house helping him pack earlier and figured it was the same people playing a prank on him. But when he tried to pull the person’s arm away from his neck who had him in the chokehold, he was hit head with a gun.

The man said while he was being held in the chokehold, a masked man came in brandishing a gun, police said. The man said a towel was then put over his head and he heard a third man’s voice in the house.
After the towel was put over his head, his mobile phone was taken from his pocket, according to police. And at the same time his arms and legs were restrained with duct tape by one of the men as he was placed onto a chair and asked for money.

The men took the duct tape binds off of him to allow him to take the three intruders to cash and firearms that he had within home, police said. Moments later he said that he heard the sound of his pickup truck engine starting and the sound of it going out of the driveway.

In addition to his truck being stolen, the cash and the firearms, the thieves also removed $8,000.00 worth of jewelry from his home, the man told police.

The man was treated for a cut to the head by Emergency Medical Technicians who were called to the scene, but was unable to provide the officers with a description of the suspects, police said.

The home invasion is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
