FREDERIKSTED – Detectives are investigating a report of gunfire near the Cottages by The Sea Resort at Dorsch Beach, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.

Police were notified of the gunfire by the 911 Emergency Call Center at 7:25 p.m. on Sunday and the Frederiksted Bike Patrol Unit was dispatched to the area of Cottages By The Sea at Dorsch Beach in Frederiksted, the VIPD said.

An off-duty officer first reported the incident. The off-duty officer also requested that a patrol and forensic unit be sent to the scene after finding several spent shell casings in the Dorsch Beach area, according to police.

No description of the suspects was made available, as witnesses were only able to state that they had heard three to four gunshots, and that a light colored-vehicle, possibly a new model SUV and a truck were seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed, headed towards Dorsch Beach, police said.
