CHRISTIANSTED – Two armed black men wearing stocking caps to cover their faces held up the Kentucky Fried Chicken in Golden Rock late last night, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.
Police said they went to the KFC on Miracle Mile shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday because the 911 Emergency Call Center notified them that a robbery had taken place, the VIPD said. None of the employees in the store were harmed during the robbery.
The KFC staff said they had locked the doors to the restaurant and were preparing to leave when one of the employees heard the sound of breaking glass, according to police.
The two armed men entered through the northern door of the restaurant after breaking the glass of the restaurant door with a cinder block, police said.
The two men then ordered the employees to the ground and demanded money, according to police. The thieves tooks an undisclosed amount of cash, all the mobile phones of the employees and even the restaurant’s phone, before fleeing the restaurant.
Police described the employees as “shaken but unharmed” following the armed robbery.
Employees said identified the robbers as two black males, dressed in all black with stocking caps covering their faces, according to police.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Bureau are investigating the armed robbery, police said.
The same KFC restaurant in Golden Rock was the location of a fatal shooting in the drive-thru in an incident of domestic violence in the mid 1990s.
