FREDERIKSTED – An Estate Wheel of Fortune man was robbed at gunpoint of $30 and shot last night, but survived the shooting, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.

The 911 Emergency Call Center received a report from an off-duty police officer at 7:56 p.m. Friday that a man had arrived at the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center’s Emergency Room seeking treatment for a gunshot wound, the VIPD said.

Police were dispatched to the hospital and met with the man, who said that he was walking his dog in the Fleming Circle area when he was approached by two black men with guns in a blue-colored vehicle, according to police. The individuals then took his mobile phone and $30.00 in cash, shot him in his foot and then fled the area.

The man is a 25-year-old man who resides in the Ludvig E. Harrigan Court housing community, police said. He sustained a gunshot wound to the instep of his right foot. He was also unable to give a further description of the suspects.

The man told police he drove himself to the hospital for treatment.

The Ludvig E. Harrigan Court is managed by the Virgin Islands Housing Authority (VIHA). The VIHA is run by Executive Director Robert Graham.

Detectives are continuing their investigation into the shooting.
