CHARLOTTE AMALIE – Police are investigating who shot a woman in the face near Hull Bay in St. Thomas Sunday night, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.
Police were notified by the 911 Emergency Call Center on Sunday at 10 p.m. that a concerned citizen had spotted a woman covered in blood walking on the Hull Bay Roadway, the VIPD said.
Officers were dispatched to the scene where they discovered the wounded woman who had sustained an injury from an apparent gun shot to the face, according to police.
Police immediately called an ambulance and the unidentified woman was rushed to the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.
Police have not yet been able to obtain the age and name of the woman due to her medical condition.
Meanwhile, reaction to the story on the “St. Croix Think Tank” on Facebook was strong, with one person writing “this is scary” and another saying “unacceptable.”
“How callous can anyone be, no matter what the underlying events are!” wrote Robina Lee Glaszcz on Facebook. “We have assassins on our streets stopping at nothing! I hope we hear of an arrest; this is just horrible.”
The shooting is being investigated by detectives with the Criminal Investigation Unit.
