Mapp: Work Set To Begin on Road Projects Territory-wide

                   Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp

CHARLOTTE AMALIE – Gov. Kenneth Mapp signed several contracts Wenesday for the Department of Public Works, which he said will “vastly improve road conditions for Virgin Islanders on St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John.”

On St. Croix, Mapp signed a contract with V.I. Paving, according to a Government House statement.  The contract is for needed road work on Emancipation Drive from Hannah’s Rest Signal Light to Claude O. Markoe Elementary School.  V.I. Paving is expected to begin work on the project immediately.

On St. John emergency roadway repairs will take place on Route 10, Centerline Road, the governor said. The damage to this road was a result of Tropical Storm Otto and has affected travel on the Island of St. John since the damage occurred. Island Roads will commence work on this project immediately, he said.

On St. Thomas, Mapp signed a contract with Island Roads for the finalization of the Rothschild Francis “Market Square” Rehabilitation Project, he said.  Work on the project is scheduled to begin immediately.

“These projects continue to serve as an example of my administration’s commitment to the people of the Virgin Islands, to rebuild our roads and improve our infrastructure,” Mapp said.
