CHARLOTTE AMALIE – There is a new benefits advisor in the Veterans Administration Clinic on St. Thomas, according to the V.I. Office of Veterans Affairs (OVA).

The advisor will be available Monday through Friday from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm to assist veterans needing assistance with initiating claims and checking on the status of existing claims, OVA Director Patrick Farrell said.

“This service was being provided periodically, but now we are glad that to have it on a daily basis,” Farrell said.

Meanwhile on St. John, the OVA in conjunction with the Veterans Administration counselors from Puerto Rico will be having office hours in Cruz Bay on October 7th, November 4th, and December 9th.

Office hours for the St. John office will be 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Battery in Cruz Bay.

Any veteran in St. John who needs assistance can come to the office between those hours and receive the same services they would if they were at the St. Thomas or St. Croix office, Farrell said.

“We strongly recommend you call the St. Thomas office at (340) 774-VETS and schedule an appointment if it is your intent to visit the St. John office,” he said. “Setting an appointment will ensure that we have your files available when you arrive.”

In an unrelated matter, Farrell said the telephone numbers for OVA in St. Thomas and St. Croix have changed effective immediately.

“Our office has been established to assist our veterans in the territory and as such in order to serve them better and make our telephone numbers easily remembered, the St. Croix number has been changed to (340) 773-VETS (8387) and the St. Thomas-St. John number is (340) 774-VETS (8387),” he said.
