Drunken Driver Crashes Into Marked Police Car And Then Tries To Drive Away
CHARLOTTE AMALIE – A 52-year-old St. Thomas man was arrested on drunken driving and related charges Saturday, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.
Avon Thomas of Estate Tutu was arrested at 3:30 p.m. on Rhymer Highway and charged with driving under the influence (DUI), the VIPD said.
Thomas was arrested after he collided into a marked police unit and left the scene of the collision, according to police. He was stopped in the area of the Holy Family Church where he was unable to perform field sobriety tests as instructed.
Thomas was arrested and charged with DUI, negligent driving, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless endangerment.
Bail for Thomas was set at $500.00 by Order of the Court.
Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending an Advice of Rights hearing.
