SUNNY ISLE – The major source for restaurant food on the island was serving up cold cash on the menu after a masked gunman entered the store close to closing and held it up.

The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched police to Quality Foods in Estate Castle Coakley at 5:50 p.m. after receiving a call about a robbery, the VIPD said.

According to a preliminary investigation, a man entered the business armed with a gun and demanded all the money from the cash register, police said.

The man took an unknown amount of cash from the business along with cash from the wallet of the cashier and fled the area on foot, police said.

The robber was described as a male, wearing blue overalls and a ski mask covering his entire face, according to police. The race of the suspect was unknown, due to his body having been fully covered.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Bureau investigating the robbery.
