Police Ask For Your Help To Identify Man Who Set Live Chicken On Fire

FREDERIKSTED – The police detective assigned to the animal aruelty case where a chicken was videotaped while being set a fire is seeking the assistance of the St. Croix community to solve the case, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.
On September 28, investigators received notification of the incident, where a video clip had been uploaded onto Facebook showing several people in the Mutual Homes housing community setting a young chicken ablaze, the VIPD said.
Police have determined that the incident occurred on September 26 at about 6:47pm on St. Croix and was uploaded by a user going by the name of “Blacks Lee,” according to the VIPD.
The video clip was also uploaded to the Facebook community page entitled: “What’s Going on St. Thomas,” where it garnered more than 5,000 views and many negative comments, police said.
Reviewing the 47 seconds of video reveals that the incident took place in Mutual Homes located in Frederiksted and shows a young man trying to ignite a disposal lighter on a young fowl in an attempt to light it a fire.
Moments later, the chicken is engulfed in flames and runs a short distance onto a road, where it dies. You can hear the suspect(s) laughing and saying “what ya’ fry chicken,” police said.
Police are asking for the community’s assistance in identifying the young man in the still photo, taken from the 47 seconds of the video footage they obtained from the Internet.
