‘Vulnerable Adult’ Found In Ruins At John Brewer Bay

CHARLOTTE AMALIE – A 65-year-old St. Thomas woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and missing since Thursday was discovered safe, but dehydrated near Brewer’s Bay this morning, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.

Reported as a “missing vulnerable adult” on Friday, Karen Andrews was last seen at 9 p.m. Thursday in the vicinity of Bonne Esperance. Andrews was found at 10:34 a.m. today in some old building ruins at Brewer’s Bay, the VIPD said.

Police search teams broke up into five groups led by officers with the VIPD consisting of recruits from the police academy and members of St. Thomas Rescue. They began a coordinated search effort for Ms. Andrews Friday afternoon, lasting into the late evening.

The teams resumed their search this morning at 7 a.m. and continued to fan out from the Bonne Esperance area where Ms. Andrews was last seen.

When the search party found Andrews today in Brewer’s Bay she was safe, but dehydrated. She was immediately taken to the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital for treatment and observation.

St. Thomas Chief of Police Darren Foy extended his “sincere thanks to the effort and dedication shown by the family of Ms. Andrews, the Virgin Islands Police Department officers, police recruits and St. Thomas Rescue in their concerted search and end result in locating Ms. Andrews.”
