FREDERIKSTED – A 20-year-old man says that he was pushed to the ground and assaulted by three men as he tried to feed his dogs in the Mutual Homes housing community Wednesday night.

Police met with the man who said that when he went to the rear of his building to feed his dogs he was “assaulted” by three men.

The man said that a “lookout” surveilled the area as he was pushed to the ground. While he was down, the three men took his cell phone, a gold chain, a ring, and his dignity.

“The three unknown men then fled into the bushes surrounding the area,” police said.

The brave man declined medical treatment and could not describe the men who had assaulted him. The only thing he could say was that they “wore black tee-shirts tied across their faces.”

A search of the surrounding area was conducted by police along with a police dog, with no evidence of the crime.

Police said that they are continuing their investigation into the “matter.”

Another report, following Hurricane Hugo in 1989, cited a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) confidential overview that said that over 40 percent of the U.S. Virgin Islands public lives below the poverty line.
