TOURISM BOOMING IN DR: Second Hard Rock Hotel To Open In 2017

SANTO DOMINGO — A new Hard Rock International hotel and casino will open in the Dominican Republic in late 2017.

Developed in collaboration with All Inclusive Collection, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Santo Domingo will feature 400 hotel rooms and suites, as well as a state-of-the-art casino.

It is the second Hard Rock-branded hotel to open in the Dominican Republic and comes on the heels of its successful resort in Punta Cana.

“The Dominican Republic is the region’s most visited country and continues to be the top performing destination in the Caribbean. In fact, the country received 19% of the record number of 26.3 million visitors to the Caribbean region in 2014,” said Nelson Parker, vice president of casino development at Hard Rock International. “The decision to bring a full service hotel and the brand’s second Caribbean casino to the Dominican Republic is a testament to the country’s remarkable strength in tourism.”

Located in the heart of the Dominican Republic’s capital city, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Santo Domingo will offer 400 guestrooms, as well as a 23,000-square-foot casino, screening room and a nightclub opening up to the main pool. The property will also include 33,000 square feet of meeting space.

The full-service hotel will offer a range of amenities, such as Hard Rock’s legendary merchandise Rock Shop, Rock Spa & the Body Rock gym, a lobby bar, cigar lounge and a celebrity-chef specialty restaurant.

“We’ve had overwhelming success with our resort in Punta Cana, and are thrilled to continue our collaboration with Hard Rock International and introduce Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Santo Domingo,” said Frank Maduro, vice president of Marketing for All Inclusive Collection. “The vibrant atmosphere of the destination, matched with our luxury offerings and unique amenities, will make for an unforgettable and fun experience for all travelers.”

Another report, following Hurricane Hugo in 1989, cited a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) confidential overview that said that over 40 percent of the U.S. Virgin Islands public lives below the poverty line.
