18-Year-Old Man Arrested For Stabbing Woman In Strip Club, Discharging Gun

Joseph Markel

           ARRESTED: Markel Joseph

CHRISTIANSTED – An 18-year-old St. Croix man was arrested for stabbing a 27-year-old woman in a strip club and discharging gunfire afterwards outside in the parking lot early on Monday.

The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched police to the Playaz Club in the Diamond Crest Mall at Sunny Isles at 2:19 a.m. Monday after a disturbance was reported there.

A secondary 911 notification was received, stating that a woman who had been stabbed at the strip club was receiving treatment at the Juan F. Luis Hospital’s Emergency Room.

Police met with the injured woman at the hospital and she told them that she was with a group of friends at the Playaz Club when one of the suspects started offering them drinks. No one in the group said yes, but the man, later identified as Markel Joseph, began offering each woman individually a drink.

Joseph then got into a confrontation with one of the women at which time he brandished a knife and began swiping wildly at the woman, cutting her several times with the blade, police said.

The group of women got up to leave the nightclub, but were advised against doing so, as Joseph was seen outside discharging gunfire, according to police.

Joseph then left the area accompanied by another man who was later identified as his brother 22-year-old Darwin Williams of Estate Glynn. The women drove their wounded friend to the hospital.

Meanwhile, a description of the two suspects was given to police and moments later, Joseph and Williams were spotted at the Gateway Service Station in Peter’s Rest. Police said that they were later positively identified as the pair involved in the disturbance at the Playaz Club.

Joseph of Estate La Grande Princesse was arrested and charged with third-degree assault for the stabbing and discharging of gunfire.

Williams was arrested and charged with being an accessory after the fact.

Bail for each man was set at $25,000.00. Unable to post bail, each man was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending their Advice of Rights hearings.
