Will the real Granny Mapp please stand up!

Sadly, once again we see an example of a government official verbally attacking another.

This is not the first time and ceratinly not the last. However, usually we see these type of attacks during an election
of some sort.

However, in this instance this is not the case. The issue at hand involves our Governor Kenneth Mapp and Senator Janette Millin Young. Senator Young just happens to be one of the few senators to vote against the Arclight- Hovensa

This was Senator Young’s right. A decision that she felt strongly about. It does not matter what side your on. She was merely doing her job as a senator. Well, the Hovensa deal went through. You would think that would be that.

Right? Wrong! Wait for it! Ding! Ding! Let’s get ready to rumble!

In this corner we have senator Young who believes
that some type of bribery is at hand involving her mother’s back pension. Oh, by the way, the Virgin Islands government
just about owes every retired government employee a back pension! Just ask any retiree. Why does the Virgin Island government owe so many people?

Perhaps it’s because we are too busy placing the governor in a new mansion evry time they come into office!

Or is it because our governor needs a chauffeur-driven luxury car?

But, let’s forget about that for now!

Round one: Governor Mapp, being raised by his loving grandmother calls Senator Young a setty fowl!

What’s that you say?

A setty fowl! That’s a roundhouse punch! Next, Governor Mapp calls senator Young selfish, and a jackass!

That’s an uppercut!

I tell you, Don King couldn’t promoted a better contest! In the words of Rodney King; “Can’t we all just get along ?”

I feel that the governor needs to publically apologize. What type of example is he setting for our students?

These petty differences and name calling must stop immediately!

We face other important issues in the Virgin Islands.

Hospitals that can barely pass inspection. Our schools are understaffed and in deplorable shape. Our roads are full of
unsighlty potholes.

To our beloved Senator Janette Millin Young, congratulations for simply doing your job, and refusing to sink to a gutter level attack on another government official.

To Governor Kenneth Mapp, Come on man! You are better
than this!

You and I go way back to when you were a police officer bro! Just because you were raised by your granny, you don’t have to act like one!

John McCarthy is primarily known for his investigative reporting on the U.S. Virgin Islands. A series of reports beginning in the 1990's revealed that there was everything from coliform bacteria to Cryptosporidium in locally-bottled St. Croix drinking water, according to a then-unpublished University of the Virgin Islands sampling. Another report, following Hurricane Hugo in 1989, cited a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) confidential overview that said that over 40 percent of the U.S. Virgin Islands public lives below the poverty line. The Virgin Islands Free Press is the only Caribbean news source to regularly incorporate the findings of U.S. Freedom of Information Act requests. John's articles have appeared in the BVI Beacon, St. Croix Avis, San Juan Star and Virgin Islands Daily News. He is the former news director of WSVI-TV Channel 8 on St. Croix.
