CHARLOTTE AMALIE – Three people were shot and two people killed when a St. Thomas nightclub morphed into a shooting gallery in the early morning hours today.

Police responded to the Eclipse Lounge in the Vitraco Park Mall about 4:44 a.m. Saturday after a report of a shooting incident there.

Eyewitnesses told police that the two people who eventually died from being shot were involved in a fight with some other people at the Eclipse Lounge.

According to a preliminary investigation, at least two guns were fired during the fight and the first person shot fell to the ground. The wounded man was then transported to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Hospital via ambulance where he later succumbed to his injuries during surgery.

The second person shot had allegedly started firing random shots towards the night club shortly after the first shooting. The security guard on duty returned fire and struck the second shooter who later succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

A man standing near the front of the nightclub when the second shooter began firing random shots at it was also contacted by police at the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital. The surviving bystander said when he realized he was shot he went to the hospital in a private vehicle.

Police said the identities of the two dead men are being withheld until their next of kin can be notified.

Meanwhile, friends of the man who was shot standing outside the nightclub have identified him as “Bobby” and established a “Go Fund Me” page for people to contribute to his medical care costs.

The page says that “Bobby” was hit by one “stray” bullet and underwest emergency surgery. It said on Jan. 12, 2016 that $390 had been raised for him.

The two killings represent the first two murders of 2016 in the Virgin Islands. There were 40 murders in the territory in 2015.
