Two Men Injured In Drive-By Shooting Near Concordia Gas Station


FREDERIKSTED — Saturday, March 12, 2016 at roughly 3:26pm, officers were dispatched by the 911 Emergency Call Center, in a response to a shots fired in the vicinity of the Concordia Gas Station.

Upon arrival to the scene, officers received information that a maroon Mercedes Benitez had been involved in a drive by shooting. Shortly after, additional information revealed that a Toyota Tacoma traveling out of Concordia at a high rate of speed towards the Juan Luis Hospital contained two gunshot victims that needed medical treatment.

Further information indicated that the suspects travelled to the Hugginsburg area, where they abandoned the vehicle and was hiding in the bush area. Officers set up a perimeter while officers of the K-9 unit and Special Operations Bureau conducted a search of the bush area and recovered a high powered riffle.

A police search of the area for the suspects was unsuccessful.

The victims being treated at the Juan Luis Hospital were later identified as 24-year-old Kareem Matias of the Harrigan Court area who sustained gunshot wounds to his right hand and left leg.

The second victim in this incident was identified as 21-year-old Laquan Hill of Hannah’s Rest, who sustained gunshot wounds to his left hand and a graze to his left shoulder. The victims wounds sustained during this incident were non-life threatening. Detectives are continuing their investigation into the matter.
