WASHINGTON, DC– Virgin Islands Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett congratulates former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on her definitive win in the New York Democratic Primary Tuesday and encourages the territory’s local delegates to the Democratic National Convention to support Clinton as the party’s nominee.
Plaskett, who is also a super delegate with the territory’s Democratic National Party, said that Clinton’s history and public service record not only makes her the best qualified candidate for president in 2016, but also the best choice for Virgin Islanders.
“I am proud to announce my support for Hillary Clinton as our Democratic nominee for President of the United States. Her decades-long record of public service leads a legacy of championing the very issues that affect Virgin Islanders living both in the territory and in large Caribbean diaspora’s throughout the U.S. Mainland. As first lady, Hillary Clinton fought to ensure easy access to high-quality healthcare for working families, and I am proud to stand with her as she works toward finding a sustainable solution to expanding health coverage to the U.S. Virgin Islands under the Affordable Care Act as our next president,” Plaskett said.
“Having served as Secretary of State, Ms. Clinton understands more than any other candidate, the unique challenges and concerns of the Virgin Islands. She has demonstrated empathy and a willingness to go the extra mile for minorities and underserved communities in the past. She will build bridges of understanding over walls of separation,” Plaskett added.
Congresswoman Plaskett joined former Secretary Clinton, along with other Congressional Members and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio on the campaign trail in Brooklyn ahead of Clinton’s resounding victory in Tuesday’s New York primary. Brooklyn, New York is among several cities in the United States with large populations of Caribbean Americans.
Plaskett and her colleague, Congresswoman Yvette Clark (D-NY), are co-chairs of the Caribbean Americans for Clinton Committee.
