MURDERED: Chanel Petro Nixon
NEW YORK — A man being held in a St. Vincent and the Grenadines jail has been arrested in connection with the 2006 murder of a 16-year-old Brooklyn girl, the Virgin Islands Free Press has learned.
The victim, Chanel Petro Nixon, vanished on Father’s Day 2006. Her body was found in a garbage bag four days later.
A grand jury has now indicted the 29-year-old Veron Primus, who was long suspected in her death.
Primus is currently on St. Vincent where he has been in police custody since April 21 on unrelated murder and kidnapping cases.
NYPD detectives traveled to St. Vincent to interview him in April and May.
Primus is formerly of Brooklyn. He was three years older than Nixon, and knew her from school and church, according to authorities.
The Brooklyn District Attorney will discuss the indictment at noon today.
The V.I. Free Press first reported on Primus’ case on May 9.
