Maho Bay in St. John
NEW YORK — Two of our Virgin Islands rank high in an annual survey conducted by Travel + Leisure magazine.
Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands ranked No. 1 in a survey of the best Caribbean islands, while St. John came in No. 5.
“Given that there are more than 700 islands in the Caribbean — each with its own charm — it can be difficult to know which one to pick when planning a getaway,” Travel + Leisure said.
But according to Travel + Leisure readers, there are a few where you basically can’t go wrong.
“Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe—to share their opinions on the top cities, islands, cruise lines, spas, airlines, and more. Readers rated islands on their natural attractions/beaches, activities/sights, food, friendliness, and overall value.”
In providing the top ten list with accompanying photos of all the islands, Travel + Leisure advises readers to “be forewarned” that “this list will inspire some major wanderlust.”
In addition to St. John and Virgin Gorda, the list includes Bermuda, St. Lucia; Anguilla;,Culebra and Vieques in Puerto Rico; and Harbour Island, Exuma and Andros Islands in the Bahamas.
