Spent shell casings at JFK Wednesday.

CHRISTIANSTED — A man who was shot multiple times in an incident near Central High School in September 2015 — apparently survived a hail of 44 bullets on Wednesday.

Although not officially named by police — who might not have been able to question him as he was being operated on at the hospital — eyewitnesses said the man who was shot multiple times at the John F. Kennedy Terrace in Estate Richmond near dusk on Wednesday was Dwayne “DMX” Woodrup.

Police said officers from the Ancilmo Marshall C Command Zone in Christiansted were dispatched to John F. Kennedy Terrace about 6 p.m. on Wednesday with a report of discharging of gunshots fired there.

When police arrived on the scene of the shooting less than a half mile away from the police station, a large crowd had already formed around a black man who had been shot multiple times.

Eyewitnesses counted at least 44 spent shell casings at the scene of the shooting.

Police secured the crime scene and moved bystanders away while the Forensic unit, and the Criminal Investigation Bureau canvassed the area for clues.

The man was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment by ambulance, according to VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte. The wounded man remains in critical but stable condition, Dratte said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident or others to call the Police Chief’s office at (340) 778-2211 the Criminal Investigations Bureau at (340) 712-6092, 911 or the anonymous tips line Crimestoppers VI at 1 (800) 222-8477.
