VIPD: Shots Fired At V.I. Cargo … One Man, One Minor Arrested By Police Near Quality Foods

CHRISTIANSTED — A concerned citizen reported that about six shots were fired in the vicinity of V.I. Cargo at approximately 9:28 a.m. October 26, 2016, police said.
The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) said that “two dark skin males wearing dark shirts were observed running to the rear of a building in the area. “
Police observed two people fitting the description close by in the vicinity Quality Foods on the Hess Road, the VIPD said.
“The two individuals were detained and arrested,” VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said. “18-year-old Rajah Caul and a male minor.”
Two firearms, a mask and a cellphone were recovered from the two suspects; Contact was then made with a witness in the vicinity at Emmanuel Scrap Metals located adjacent to V.I. Cargo in Estate Castle Coakley who stated that they were just robbed of cash and a cellphone by two individuals fitting the description of the two individuals detained and arrested.
The cellphone recovered from the suspects was identified as being stolen during the armed robbery at Emmanuel Scarp Metals during which numerous shots were fired. Rajah Caul was remanded and at the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility and male Minor at the Division for Youth Detention Facility both suspects are pending advice of rights hearing.
Acting Chief McFarlande stated “that the ongoing arrest is a Community Movement in Citizens taking back their space in the territory “and urging the public to continue call (340) 778 2211– STX (340) 774-2211– STT Crimestoppers 1-800-222-TIPS or 911.

The incident is being actively investigated by Criminal Investigation Bureau, police said.
