CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A 19-year-old St. Thomas man was taken into police custody after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Thursday February 23, 2017 at about 4:53 p.m. Darwin Puello-Mateo, 19, of Contant, was present at the Criminal Investigation Bureau when he was immediately taken into custody by police, the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) said.

Puello-Mateo is facing charges on Possession of Stolen Property, Carrying a Firearm, Grand Larceny and Disturbance of the Peace, according to the VIPD.

On January 18, 2017, while using a firearm Puello-Mateo took jewelry and cash from another individual, the VIPD said.

Unable to post bail of $75,000.00, Puello-Mateo was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending an Advice of Rights hearing.
