CHRISTIANSTED — A veteran police detective was shot in the back by four fellow police officers at a bar in Calquhoun and a young man was shot to death at a St. Croix housing project last night, according to police and unofficial reports.

On May 25, 2017 at approximately 10:22 p.m., an officer on patrol reported a discharging of multiple shots near D. Hamilton Jackson Terrace (Red Brick).

Officers responded and a search was conducted to find the location of the discharging of shots; callers indicated to 911 the location of the victim, when officers reached at the scene they discovered an unresponsive black man, the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) said.

The victim had succumbed to his injuries from gunshot wounds, EMT’s and medical staff on scene pronounced him dead on the scene.

The victim was transported to the morgue by the morgue attendants; next of kin has not been notified, so the man was not identified by police.

Detectives were at the scene canvassing the area for information and evidence.

In an unrelated story, police sources said that “Officer Moses President” of the VIPD was shot in the back at the Frontline bar and restaurant in Estate Calquhoun, Frederiksted last night.

Sources said that President was in stable condition today after surviving last night’s shooting.

Four police officers involved in the shooting have been suspended with pay over the incident, pending a police internal affairs investigation into the matter, the Virgin Islands Free Press has learned.

The fatal shooting incident is actively under investigation by Criminal Investigation Bureau, police said.
