VIPD: Two St. Croix Men Have Been Arrested In Connection With The Shooting Death of Dean Schneider Near The Watergut Shanty On Sunday

CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix man was shot to death near the Watergut Shanty in downtown and police said they were successful in capturing two men who are “persons of interest” in the shooting seen fleeing the scene in a gray SUV on Sunday afternoon.
On Sunday June 4, 2017 at about 2:40 p.m., a concerned citizen called 911 Emergency Call Center in reference to discharging of shots in the area of Watergut Shanty in downtown Christiansted.
Upon arrival officers discovered an unresponsive Hispanic male with what appeared to be as gunshot wound to the upper body. The individual was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital where 23- year-old Dean Schneider succumbed to the injury he sustained from the gunshot wound.
VIPD placed an all-points bulletin based on information gathered at the scene. A gray SUV heavily tinted fitting the description of the fleeing vehicle; police stopped the vehicle fitting the description and ordered the vehicle operator and passenger out of vehicle. The vehicle was searched and officers discovered items of that could be used against the accused in court including weapons.
Andre Auguste- 27-year-old of, Frederiksted, St. Croix was arrested and charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm,
Unauthorized possession of ammunition.
K’Shuan Hughes- 20 years old, Christiansted, St. Croix was arrested and charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
Unauthorized possession of ammunition
Possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute
Bail for each man was set at $25,000 as per chart. Unable to post bail, Auguste and Hughes were remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending advice of rights hearing.
St. Croix Police Chief Winsbut McFarlande said it was a collective police team effort to capture those responsible for the shooting of Schneider.
