MID-ISLAND — Police said that an Estate Glynn man died Thursday evening in a car accident at the Mon Bijou traffic light intersection.
At 7:35 p.m. Thursday the 911 call center received a report of the accident, the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) said.
The VIPD Traffic Division’s preliminary investigation and the reports of eyewitnesses at the scene said that a woman was driving a white Toyota Corolla south to north.
Then Kaleem McFarlande, 28, approached the intersection from the west driving a green Chevy Cavalier.
Eyewitnesses said McFarlande’s Cavalier ran the stop light, crashed into the woman’s Corolla and finally ended up wrapped around the traffic light pole.
EMS and rescue personnel confirmed that McFarlande was dead on the scene.
The woman driving the Toyota Corolla did not receive any life threatening injuries, according to the VIPD.
McFarlande is the son of the cousin of Territorial Police Chief Winsbut McFarlande.
