CRUZ BAY — A verbal argument between two men in St. John turned violent when one of the men stabbed the other in the upper chest on Saturday morning — the injured man is in critical condition and could die.

Police did not release official information on the incident but the Virgin Islands Free Press has learned that a 62-year-old man was moved to the Schneider Regional Medical Center by boat to receive life-saving treatment for his injuries.

VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte did not return telephone calls requesting comment on the incident.

According to police sources, the fight took place about 10:20 a.m. Saturday near the U.S. Customs parking lot in Cruz Bay.

“One of the individuals in the altercation pulled out a knife and stabbed the other individual in the left breast area,” Dratte told the St. Croix Avis weekly newspaper.

The Virgin Islands Police Department has not been able to find the suspect on the 19.61 square mile island since the crime was first reported to authorities.

No further information was available as police did not respond to telephone or email requests for comment all this weekend.
