CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Six people were shot — four on St. Croix and two on St. Thomas — and three people were killed over a 48-hour period this weekend.

The most recent shootings occurred on St. Thomas when two shootings left one man dead and another man in critical condition early Sunday morning.

The first shooting took place about 1:32 a.m. Sunday in Red Hook when the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of multiple gunshots and one man injured.

The injured man was later identified as Rudolph Rudell Maduro, 27, of Anna’s Retreat. Maduro was taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center in a private vehicle.

Police on the scene said that Maduro had sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the shooting.

On Aug. 27, 2015, Maduro was stopped with another man in Valdosta, Georgia for speeding. At that time, authorities said that they found “five small bags of crack cocaine, two suitcases with four vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana weighing four pounds and $4,882.94 in U.S currency,” according to WTXL-TV in Florida.

Maduro was arrested at that time and charged with speeding and felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

There was also information that Maduro had been indicted by a grand jury in Lowndes County, Georgia for cocaine possession after police charged his traveling companion Jeveon Trotman with felony possession of cocaine with intent to distribute during the same August 2015 traffic stop.

The second shooting happened around 6:52 a.m. on Sunday and authorities were notified when a 911 emergency caller said that they had heard multiple shots fired near the Tutu Hi-Rise housing community.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that someone drove a vehicle with multiple bullet holes to the emergency room at the Schneider Hospital

The passenger in that vehicle had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The driver told authorities that he went to Tutu Hi-Rise to pick up a friend and when he got there, another vehicle pulled up and two men got out and starting shooting at him.

Although the driver was able to run away, his passenger remained in the vehicle, and was struck by a hail of bullets.

After the shooters left the scene, the driver returned to his vehicle and drove his injured friend to the hospital.
