CHRISTIANSTED — The Danish Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) will be making a generous donation to the Virgin Islands Fire Services (VIFS) today.
The donation exchange ceremony will be held at the Richmond Fire Station located on St. Croix, from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
DEMA will be donating large 15-foot by 24-foot tents, as well as a package of electrical tools and equipment, including generators.
The purpose of the $25,000.00 donation is to assist the VIFS with future recovery efforts and to bolster capacity. The donation will also benefit the department in carrying out their daily responsibilities.
DEMA deployed a task force of 31 tradesmen (carpenters, electricians, and mechanics) to the USVI.
Their mission began on Monday, October 2,2017 and ends on Friday, December 15, 2017.
DEMA has completed 37 projects throughout the territory-St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John. Some of the projects included emergency repairs to eight schools/education facilities, five churches, three homeless shelters,
six homes for children and/or elderly, and four historical landmarks.
DEMA also repaired many roofs, replaced boarded doors/windows, welded gates, fixed generators and power lines.
After providing much needed recovery assistance, the VIFS invites the public and the media to be a part of the donation ceremony and be a part of their farewell.
