Double Murder At St. Croix’s Coliseum Cockpit Saturday … The Second One In Less Than A Year

MID-ISLAND ST. CROIX — Two men were killed after a shooting at the Coliseum Cockpit on Saturday afternoon.

Luis Colon, 32, and Jacobo Garcia, 46, were shot to death sometime before 3:49 p.’m. when the 911 Emergency Call Center was notified.

When police arrived on the scene in Estate Glynn, they found one of the victims unresponsive and that another man had been taken from the scene in a private vehicle.

In October 2016, Colon and Garcia were involved in an incident in which the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) seized a friend’s speedboat after they had been aboard for a birthday.

According to the suit filed against the VIPD in federal court, the two were driving in two cars and towing the boat on the Hess Oil road when they were stopped by armed police officers and taken to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area office of the U.S. District Court in Golden Rock and questioned.

The compliant said that no evidence of drug trafficking was found and that Colon and Garcia were never charged with a crime — but police kept the boat.

It is the second double murder to take place at the cockpit in less than a year. Two people were killed in March 2017 in a “fusillade of bullets.”

In last year’s shooting, Lawrence Greenidge, 28, and Juan Aponte, 16, died.
