CHRISTIANSTED — The Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (ASPR), an association of in-house physician recruitment professionals, said that Keith A. James, physician recruiter, has earned the FASPR credential as a Fellow of the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters.

The program is the most comprehensive, authoritative resource for individuals seeking to develop and test their skills and knowledge within a broad spectrum of topics including physician/provider recruitment, onboarding and retention, human resources, and relevant legal issues.

Keith is reportedly the first physician recruiter in the U.S. Virgin Islands to earn this credential and has been essential to the successful recruitment of talented medical staff members at the Juan F. Luis Hospital (JFL) over the last two years.

But a reader of the Virgin Islands Free Press named “Tom Smith” wrote in to say that James no longer is employed by the hospital.

“How this is news worthy since he no longer works at JFL” Smith said.

Previously, James managed the fiscal, administrative and government relations functions of the Chief Executive Officer’s Office as well as developed and implemented marketing and public relations initiatives as the executive assistant to the chief executive officer at the hospital.

He is actively involved in the Virgin Islands Future Business Leaders of America state chapter as an executive council member, volunteer for the annual March of Dimes Walk-A-Thon and has played a major role in organizing district and state FBLA conferences for over 15 years.

James is a member of the National Academies Foundation Advisory Board — St. Croix District. He is also a trainer with the Northeast ADA Trainer Network.

In Senate testimony during the Rules and Judiciary meeting of the Legislature on Thursday, the audience learned that 22 medical doctors, mostly specialists, left the territory after Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
