Three Islands in Caribbean Shaken By Quake Measuring 3.9 on Richter Scale Near Martinique Sunday Night

PORT OF SPAIN — An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9 rattled three islands in the region on Sunday night, but there were no immediate reports of damages or injuries.

The Trinidad-based Seismic Research Center (SRC) at the St Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) said that the quake occurred at 9:25 p.m. at a depth of six miles underground.

It said the quake was located at Latitude: 15.04 N, Longitude: 60.47 W and was felt 51 miles northeast of Fort-de-France, Martinique, 65 miles east south east of Roseau, Dominica and 77 miles northeast of Castries, St Lucia.

In recent weeks several Caribbean countries have experienced earthquakes of various magnitudes and the SRC has warned the region to be prepared for a major quake.
