CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Gov. Kenneth Mapp has extended Passover and Easter greetings to all Virgin Islanders with the hope that it will be a time of peace and celebration after what has been a challenging period in local history.

“Whether you find yourself camping, in church or just relaxing with loved ones, this is traditionally a time for restoration, renewal and rejuvenation,” Mapp said.

Holy Thursday (March 29), Good Friday (March 30) and Easter Monday (April 2) are legal holidays in the Territory. All local Government offices will be closed. Public schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

March 31, Transfer Day, is also a legal holiday in U.S. Virgin Islands. March 31, 2018 marks the 101st anniversary of the transfer of the Danish West Indies to the United States. The official transfer occurred on March 31, 1917 at 4 p.m. at the site of what is now the Virgin Islands Legislature.
