Government House Issues Two-Line Press Release Saying Mapp Is Already in Miami

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — In a two-line press release, Government House said that “U.S. Virgin Islands Governor Kenneth Mapp will be traveling out of the territory from today, April 2 to Tuesday, April 3.”

The press release said that Mapp will attend the Clinton Global Initiative Action Network on Post-Disaster Recovery in Miami.

In his absence, Lt. Governor Osbert Potter will serve as acting governor through Tuesday.

Another report, following Hurricane Hugo in 1989, cited a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) confidential overview that said that over 40 percent of the U.S. Virgin Islands public lives below the poverty line. The Virgin Islands Free Press is the only Caribbean news source to regularly incorporate the findings of U.S. Freedom of Information Act requests.
