TEGUCIGALPA — Honduran authorities seized 319 kilos of cocaine on a Panamanian-flagged ship in Caribbean waters in an operation that also arrested two Colombians and one Honduran, an official source said.
The vessel was intercepted on April 29 by a patrol of the Honduran Naval Force off the coast of the eastern department of Gracias a Dios, in the Caribbean of the Central American country, Armed Forces spokesman Jose Domingo Meza told reporters.
Meza added that the ship, with the name “Angeline”, was taken to Puerto Cortés, west, where on Sunday it began to do a recount of the drug and until now add up to 319 kilos of those found.
The drugs seized have a value of about 125 million lempiras (5.2 million U.S. dollars), according to Meza.
The informant also noted that Honduras maintains assets in the Caribbean air, sea and land shields initiated four years ago to reduce drug trafficking by the country from South America.
From January to March of this year, the Honduran authorities seized about 1,554 kilos of cocaine and 1,380 kilos of marijuana, among other drugs according to official sources.
